On the other hand, views expressed by those from outside the Combine (like those of the Davions in the Warrior trilogy) might go a little loose with the 'slave' terminology and apply it to the Eta Caste. Even if slavery is illegal or otherwise not condoned in part(s) of the Combine, they'd almost certainly find it expedient to sell slaves to 3rd parties where it is legal. Criminals were often sold into slavery as punishment as well, or their families sold into slavery after the criminal was killed. the children of slaves were not usually slaves themselves, though they held a lower social standing, and often a person would sell themselves into slavery in order to provide for their family. slaves were generally used as either labor in farming, or as servants within a wealthier household. it probably was similar to slavery in Japan from the Yamato to Sengoku periods. ![]() Most likely their slavery has little in common with "that peculiar institution" that existed in the USA once. she was bought by her father/Akira's grandfather. Yorinaga's wife, and Akira Brahe's mother, was sold into slavery after Yorinaga's disgrace. I know that Warrior Coupe has mention of it.
